Faculty of Engineering Buildings 1, The University of Tokyo

Outline
The school building housing the Department of Architecture and other departments was renovated and reconstructed as a place for education. The former courtyard was floored to accommodate a drafting room and other functions. A library was added to the rear of the building, straddling the old and new structures, and a foyer was added outside the semi-circular staircase classroom. Lecture Room 15, where famous architects from Japan and abroad have taught since its construction, was renovated again in 2023 under the supervision of Manabu Chiba of the Campus Management Research Center of the University of Tokyo (KAJIMA HALL). The interiorized scratch-tile walls and buttresses give an up-close impression of Uchida Gothic textures.
