- Kawai, a facilities designer who was also involved in the design of the former Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (designed by Kenzo Tange in 1957), built this residence in his hometown of Toyohashi. The main structure is made of corrugated pipe, a durable and economical civil engineering building material, and is placed without a foundation. The interior is pillarless. It was designed for a self-sufficient lifestyle.
