- It stands on the site of Shimazaki Toson's birthplace "Honjin Yashiki" after it was destroyed by fire. The building was intended to preserve and commemorate the ruins of the fire, and from a perch in the building set back 7' in depth and 13' in length, one can look out over the vacant lot where the ruins of the fire once stood. In a time of material poverty, even the roof tiles of private houses were sometimes stripped and handmade using local materials, techniques, and manpower.
