Sainte Geneviève Library

Outline
The exterior is a Neo-Renaissance masonry structure, but the interior is a space of light cast-iron columns and arches on a two-corridor plan. The flat plaster ceiling accentuates the beauty of the delicate framework. Labrouste also designed the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (1875), which was also built of cast iron, but developed into a space with a series of pendent domes.
