HONDA HOUSE
KUME SEKKEI
- Outline
- This private residence was designed by Gonkuro Kume, the founder of Kume Sekkei, and completed in 1939 by Shosaku Honda (manager of Honda Shoten, a company that manufactures and sells safety lights for mines and ships). It uses the "Kume-style earthquake-resistant wood-frame structure" (a structure with beams, penetrations, and diagonals through braced posts made of small-diameter lumber) devised by Gonkuro Kume. Kume Sekkei succeeded to the house and registered it as a National Tangible Cultural Property in 2022.
