Outline
The town of Minami Sanriku was severely damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. In 2014, Shizugawa district, which was severely damaged by the tsunami, created a grand design with the cooperation of Kengo Kuma Architects. The Minamisanriku San-san Shopping Street was completed in 2017, and the Minamisanriku Town Disaster Reconstruction Memorial Park and Naka Bridge were completed in 2020.
