CONSERVATION WORK OF THE WEST COCOON WAREHOUSE OF TOMIOKA SILK MILL

Outline
The spinning mill, west cocoon mill, and east cocoon mill at Tomioka Silk Mill were designated as national treasures in 2014. The west cocoon mill was constructed when the mill opened in 1872. The first floor is reinforced with a steel frame and a box made of tempered glass to compensate for the horizontal rigidity of the first floor ceiling, and the horizontal structure of the second floor is reinforced with carbon fiber struts for reversibility.
