HOSHOIN KANNONDO

Outline
This is a plan for a multipurpose space and a Kannondō (Goddess of Mercy) hall in a temple that has been standing for more than 400 years along the Nikko Kaido. The site used to be a parking lot facing the street. The intention was to create a space that is open to the community like the teahouses that were built in the days when the temple was an inn town. The Kannon-do has a square roof with a mesh-like structure consisting of climbing beams that are shifted at the apexes of the roof, and a span of 12.7m with 105 x 270mm beams.
