MINAMISANRIKU TOWN OFFICE/UTATSU GENERAL BRANCH+PUBLIC HALL

Outline
This project involves the relocation of administrative offices to higher ground and the construction of new facilities in the Shizugawa and Utatsu districts of Minamisanriku Town (population: 13,000), which was devastated by the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. A space called "Machidoma" was planned in the two facilities as a collaborative and exchange plaza for the daily use of the townspeople. Ninety percent of the lumber used in the project was locally produced, and the entire project was certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
