OKIDAIKICHI-HONTEN

Outline
This project is to renovate and reconstruct a long-established sake brewery that has been in operation since the Edo period. Since many of the 20 or so buildings on the site were severely damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake, renovation and new construction (eight buildings removed, six renovated, and one newly constructed) took four years. Based on the overall concept of "connecting the town with sake breweries" and "connecting the history of sake breweries," the interplay of old and new materials was designed.
