THE GYMNASIUM IN SHIZUOKA PREFECTURE KUSANAGI SPORTS COMPLEX

Outline
Reconstruction of the existing facilities in the renewal project of Kusanagi Sports Ground, Shizuoka Prefecture. Glued-together Tenryu cedar lumber from Shizuoka Prefecture is used as the main structure. Two hundred and sixty-five laminated cedar timbers, each 14.5 m long, are arranged in an elliptical shape at angles of 45 to 70° to support the load of the main roof. Steel braces are placed on the back of the glued laminated timber to bear short-term loads such as wind and earthquake. Top lights from the top of the steel trusses allow natural light to enter the building.
