THE HEISEI CHISHINKAN WING, KYOTO NATIONAL MUSEUM

Outline
This project is to rebuild the permanent exhibition hall (completed in 1965), which was a facility for viewing the collection of the Kyoto National Museum, founded in 1897. The museum collects, stores, and permanently exhibits cultural properties mainly from the Heian to Edo periods in Kyoto. The construction of the museum was postponed due to the government's budgetary measures, and it took about 16 years from the proposal to the completion of the project. The entire building has an earthquake-resistant structure, and floor seismic isolators have been installed in the exhibition rooms and storage rooms separately to protect cultural properties.
