AINOU AGRICULTURAL HIGH SCHOOL FOREST HALL, KOTANI MEMORIAL LIBRARY

Outline
This project is to construct a one-storied wooden school building of the only private agricultural high school in Japan, located in Iga City, Mie Prefecture. The existing three-story reinforced concrete school building was reduced to two stories and retrofitted to be earthquake-resistant (Aino Gakuen Agricultural High School Main Building Rebuilding Project, 1104), and the reduced area was used for a new library, classrooms, and offices. Solid cedar lumber produced in the prefecture was used for the library, and a "tree-shaped cane structure" was adopted in which diagonal timbers branching from the cross-shaped trunk support the hut beams.
