CARDBOARD CATHEDRAL
SHIGERU BAN ARCHITECTS EUROPE + VOLUNTARY ARCHITECTS’ NETWORK(VAN) / WARREN AND MAHONEY
- Outline
- This is a temporary reconstruction of the cathedral in Christchurch, Australia, which was destroyed by the Canterbury earthquake on February 22, 2011. Using 196 paper tubes and LVL materials made at a local factory, we created a large space that can accommodate 700 people. Containers were used as the foundation for the paper tubes. The inside of the container is used as a living room.
