HOME FOR ALL FOR RIKUZENTAKATA

Outline
This meeting place was built as a gathering place for people in the Rikuzentakata area affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Using cedar log pillars that had withered in the tsunami, various heights of places are provided inside and outside. The process of designing and constructing this building was introduced in the exhibition of the Japanese Pavilion at the 13th Venice Biennale of Architecture (Commissioner: Toyo Ito, Participating artists: Kumiko Inui, Sousuke Fujimoto, Akihisa Hirata, Naoya Hatakeyama) (see 1210). The construction costs were covered by donations and corporate sponsorship. The design was carried out mainly through discussions with Sugawara Mikiko, a leader of the local community.
