HITACHI STATION AND FREE - CORRIDOR
KAZUYO SEJIMA & ASSOCIATES, THE ENVIRONMENTAL DEVELOPMENT AROUND HITACHI STATION DEPARTMENT, EAST JAPAN RAILWAY COMPANY MITO BRANCH OFFICE, JR EAST DESIGN CORPORATION
- Outline
- Reconstruction of the station building for the development of the area around Hitachi Station. Mr. Sejima was selected as the design supervisor through a proposal process. The city of Hitachi requested that the station be linked to the east and west sides, that it be barrier-free, and that it be a facility that would become the face of the city. The station buildings on the west and east sides were combined into a single bridge station building, and a free passageway 8 meters above ground and 139 meters long connects the east and west sides. The glass curtain wall is sash-less, with two sides supported by upper and lower frames.
