Outline
Village plaza for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games athletes' village. The plan is to borrow lumber from 63 municipalities throughout Japan, assemble it as a temporary facility, dismantle it after the Games, and return it to each municipality. The lumber species are mainly cedar, Japanese cypress, Japanese larch, Ezo spruce, Abies sachalinensis, red pine, Japanese cypress, etc. More than 40,000 pieces of approximately 1,300 m3 of lumber, including laminated wood, CLT, etc., are assigned to columns and beams, base materials, exterior walls, etc., taking into consideration the characteristics of each species. Three structural types are adopted according to the purpose of each room: reciprocal, lattice beam, and truss arch. The photo shows building C1 with a reciprocal structure. The name of the municipality is engraved on each timber so that the timber can be returned to the municipality after dismantling.
