The 40-year-old materials laboratory building was extended and renovated to enhance the research and development space. An extension was built on the existing frame using new technology in construction methods and materials by Taisei Corporation, and the equipment and interior finishes were updated. By introducing a variety of environmental technologies in a research institute that generally uses a lot of energy, Nealy ZEB was achieved for the first time in Japan in the renovation of a private research facility.
