Expansion of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music Library and renovation of the existing building. The entire extension (first phase) and renovation (second phase) are positioned as the "International Research Center for the Arts (IRCA)". The rich collection of prewar content is spread out over the entire building as open shelves as much as possible, and browsing spaces are arranged in various locations. The first floor of the library building adjacent to Ueno Park is open to the public as a workshop space. The existing library building was restored to the original design by Taro Amano, and renovated for seismic reinforcement and improvement of the thermal environment.
