MAKI AND ASSOCIATES IN ASSOCIATION WITH OPOLIS, THE JAPANESE SWORD MUSEUM
Outline
This is the relocation plan of the Sword Museum which opened in Yoyogi in 1968. It was planned as a garden museum in the corner of the former Yasuda Garden. The structure consists of a cylindrical section and a wing section with a curved roof. The fair-faced concrete of the wing section is made of decorative plywood formwork, while that of the cylindrical section is made of solid cedar formwork, giving each component a different texture and shade.
