This complex consists of four functions: the Kyoto Prefectural Museum of Art, the Faculty of Letters and its library at Kyoto Prefectural University, and the newly established Kyoto Studies Center. On the long and narrow site, programs and atriums are arranged in a striped pattern, and roofs of different slopes and sizes are placed at different locations to create a single large roof.
