Outline
This project is to reconstruct an elementary school, a junior high school, a children's center, and a kindergarten in the Unodome district of Kamaishi City (population: approximately 4,000), which was damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. By minimizing the amount of excavation of the mountain and building the site while retaining the ridgeline, we were able to reduce the cost and construction period while preserving the landscape of the Unodome district. A large staircase with 175 steps runs along the axis from Unodome Station, connecting the 25-meter difference in height. It was intended that the sight of children walking to and from school would become a symbol of the reconstruction of the town.
