Katori City, Chiba Prefecture - Renovation of a 180-year-old private house in a rural village in Chiba Prefecture. While retaining the existing openness to the east and south, we improved the usability of the house and made it earthquake-resistant in order to meet the needs of today's lifestyle. The earthquake-resistant structures devised for the Meiji Shrine outer shrine (1202), the Higashiyama Botanical Garden Sosetsuan (1306), and the Owari Daikokureishin Shrine儺oi-den (1403) are used throughout. Prior to the earthquake-resistant construction, strong vibration observation was carried out by Mikio Koshihara Laboratory of the University of Tokyo.
