Outline
This is a large-scale extension project of the University of Tokyo Library (completed in 1928, design: Shozo Uchida). In order to expand the current library collection of 1.25 million volumes to approximately 3 million volumes using automated stacks, a huge storage room 46 meters underground was constructed using the pneumatic caisson method. The library, which burned down in the Great Kanto Earthquake, and the fountain plaza, which is a symbol of the reconstruction of the campus, are included in the campus plan, as well as the maintenance and preservation of the main building, which is a historical building.
