Outline
This is the new steel-framed headquarters building of Audio-Technica, an international audio equipment manufacturer, in Machida City, Tokyo, where the company was founded. The existing building was completely rebuilt. A 9-meter-long cantilever on the south side of the building creates a large pilotis that opens onto the road on the south side. The building is divided into the main building and the cafeteria building, and the white form of the main building is nicknamed "Moby-Dick". The exterior walls of the first floor of the main building are made of precast concrete, and the upper part of the second to fifth floors is made of aluminum spandrel fluoropolymer baked paint developed for this project, which has a continuous triangular cross-sectional shape. The gradation from white to gray is reflected depending on where it is viewed.
