Outline
The redevelopment project of the Nishitomihisa district in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward, which had been eaten by insects due to land price increases during the bubble period, began in 1990 as the nation's first resident-led urban development activity and was completed more than 20 years later. The low-rise area contains commercial facilities and an authorized children's school, and on top of these are penthouse residences in the style of detached houses occupied by landowners, mid-rise residences, and a 55-story high-rise tower condominium.
