MAKI AND ASSOCIATES IN ASSOCIATION WITH MORIYAMA & TESHIMA ARCHITECTS
Outline
This museum, located in the suburbs of Toronto, Canada, exhibits the Aga Khan's collection and has a number of functions to convey Islamic culture. The aim was to create a space with a hidden beauty and mystery created by the various effects of light. The outside of the building is modernist, while the inside is Islamic, a fusion of the two. In consideration of future functional changes, a courtyard symbolizing Islam is placed in the center of the building, which will not change in the future. The main functions of the building are placed around the courtyard, creating a circulation plan.
