FURUMORI KOICHI ARCHITECTUAL DESIGN STUDIO
Outline
This ossuary was newly built in a temple in Fukuoka Prefecture. Because of the irregularity of the visitors and the loss of energy in controlling the thermal environment with an air conditioner, we created a space that does not use energy for air conditioning or lighting. The ceiling is composed of four layers of wooden louvers to prevent direct light from reaching the floor while letting in solar radiation. Air is drawn into the building from a pit under the floor, and discharged through a gully at the top using the ceiling height.
