Outline
This is an urban development project in which the public, private, and academic sectors collaborate around Kashiwanoha Campus Station in Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture. The first stage of the project, Gate Square, was completed, consisting of the Gate Square Hotel and Residence Building, a shop and office building housing the Kashiwanoha Open Innovation Lab (KOIL), and a satellite in front of Kashiwanoha Campus Station at the University of Tokyo. The site area is 127,000 m2, and the plan is to expand the smart city area to an area of approximately 3 million m2 by 2030. (The project is described in this magazine 1301. Gate Square is equipped with an Area Energy Management System (AEMS) for the operation and control of energy throughout the city, as well as solar power generation and emergency gas power generation for energy creation. Because energy use peaks at different times, the Gate Square and LaLaport Kashiwanoha are able to cut their energy use peaks by mutually exchanging electricity. Even if the power company's supply is interrupted due to an earthquake or other disaster, the facility can continue to provide approximately 60% of its normal power for three days.
