HIDEO SATSUTA / SATSUTA STUDIO OF ARCHITECTURE, DAY-CARE CENTER, WATARI TOWN
Outline
Reconstruction of a nursery school that was washed away by the tsunami after the Great East Japan Earthquake. It was built in the yard of a children's center. Within the large gabled roof, various scales of space are developed. The front central entrance is protected by wooden louvers and deep eaves to suit the northern climate. As in the Kesennuma Elementary School Center for Homebound Children (p. 94), thick panels of tsunami-damaged pine are used for the exterior walls. The building is a one-story wooden structure.
