Outline
This bell tower stands in a kindergarten in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, which was damaged by the tsunami that followed the Great East Japan Earthquake. After being constructed and exhibited at TOTO Gallery Ma in Tokyo, it was moved to the school yard. The bell tower can be used as a veranda where parents and local residents can gather, as a playground for the kindergarten children, and the bell, rung from a height above the surrounding houses, encourages community ties.
