PERMANENT HOUSING FOR EVACUEES IN ISHINOMAKI

YUI ARCHITECTURE OFFICE
Outline
Permanent wooden houses for residents of the Shirahama district of Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. A total of 11 houses were constructed using local construction companies and domestic timber, including three one-story houses, seven two-story houses, and one symbiotic house for shared use. A portion of the site has been leveled and developed. Permanent housing was chosen because of the need to rebuild the lives of the victims, the limited amount of flat land in the Sanriku area, the lack of public land, and the shortage of materials, mainly plywood, due to the damage to a plywood factory in the Tohoku area.
