Outline
HarvardGSD, Keio University Graduate School, and Miyagi University built a meeting place on the site of Utatsu Junior High School. Sugi (Japanese cedar) wood pre-cut in Gifu Prefecture is used for the framework, and the outer perimeter is covered with 2859 cedar blocks. The cedar blocks are scrap wood from the lumbering process and were provided free of charge by the Tome Town Forest Cooperative. The blocks are easy to assemble, and local elementary and junior high school students participated in the construction. The work is scheduled to be installed for two to five years.
