KUMAMOTO STATION WEST EXIT SQUARE
bookmark_outline
MITSUHIKO SATO ARCHITECT AND ASSOCIATES
Outline
The square in front of the west exit of JR Kumamoto Station is being developed in conjunction with the opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen Line. As part of the "Kumamoto Art Police" project, an open competition was held. A steel-framed screen surrounds the roundabout, and the roof extends outward from the station building to the bus and taxi stands, gently separating the space for people and cars. The screened sidewalk side has white painted steel plates, and the rotary side has dark brown painted slab plates. Mr. Masaaki Irie, an architect in Kumamoto, participated in the supervision of the project.
