Outline
The seven-story steel-framed city hall is a square, 360-degree open-plan building with glass curtain walls on four sides. The perimeter curtain wall and the courtyard that penetrates the third to seventh floors (partly the second floor) bring in light and wind to each floor. The office has double-sided lighting from the perimeter curtain wall and the courtyard. Materials and expressions that match the ancient image of Izumo were pursued, and the powerful wooden structure of Izumo Taisha Shrine is expressed by eight 600φ steel pipe pillars and two large beams of H600mm.
