This is a plan for large-scale urban development centered on the World Heritage Site of the Imperial Palace, located in the center of Shenyang, China. The development area covers the entire old city of 1.2 km square, or approximately 1.2 million m2. The aim of the project was to develop a large-scale urban area using mainly sustainable and energy-efficient underground spaces. The underground space is designed by an algorithm in which the geometry of the Fibonacci series is intricately intertwined in three dimensions as the major axis governing the plan.
