This atelier building was constructed as the starting point of the Musashino Art University Takanodai Campus Project. It was completed in 1964 and has been used as a painting studio since then. A plan to rebuild the building was proposed due to the shortage of ateliers, but it was decided to preserve and renovate the building because the ateliers were to be supplemented by new buildings in the campus-wide redevelopment plan.
