Outline
Built on the banks of the Shirakawa River in Kumamoto Prefecture, the first floor is a private space enclosed by individual rooms, while the second floor is a single room space divided into different functions by a gradual difference in floor levels, and a large public space connected to the third floor rooms through an atrium. The terrace on the second floor, with its view of the cherry blossoms along the riverbank, is a semi-outdoor space covered by a large eave, and serves as a buffer between the interior and exterior.
