Yoshiji Takehara / Moo Architect Workshop
Outline
This is a house that reconsiders the possibilities of wood, based on the desire of a lumber dealer who deals mainly in hardwoods to convey the appeal of hardwoods. By using a variety of methods, it is practiced to sort out the peculiar trees lying in the warehouse and use them up in their original state. Built in a corner of a lumberyard along the Chikugo River, the floor level is raised to the height of the embankment to secure the view to the river from the interior, which has an atrium and gaps between volumes. For the exterior walls, rough-hewn wood is used without painting, and the finishes are changed on four sides to give an impression of the appearance seen from over the river.
