The site is a steep downward slope on the northwest side, bordering an unspoiled natural mountain. Initially, the client had planned to reclaim the northwest slope and increase the flat area, but for various reasons, the reclamation was cancelled and the site was redesigned using the original shape. For the exterior, we did not use any simple Japanese elements such as small eaves and earthen eaves, and composed the entire roof only by the overlapping of the large roof. Where the eaves need to be lowered, the large roof is lowered to ensure sufficient depth of eaves. In order to compensate for the inferior earthquake resistance of the open-plan space of the detached Japanese-style room (reception room), the length of the pillars below the tatami mats was increased, and the pillars themselves were made to stand on their own feet.
