Outline
Can a house with steel plate structure be a general solution? IRONHOUSE was created by architects Ryozo Umezawa and Eizo Shiina to provide a solution. It is literally an iron house. The main structure is made of steel sandwich panels, and both the interior and exterior are finished with rusty Corten steel. In the basement, a courtyard space called the outer room and the living room are set up as one, and a sculptural iron staircase rises in the lush green space. The dialogue between Shiina and Umezawa, "Architecture and Iron," is also a must-read.
