POLA GOTANDA BUILDING CRYSTAL LOBBY RETROFIT

Outline
Nikken Sekkei (in charge of Shoji Hayashi et al.) retrofitted the ceiling of the first floor entrance hall and the wind-shield of the POLA Gotanda Building (7105), completed in 1971. The ceiling is made of laminated glass, but the weight of the ceiling is reduced by using aluminum plates with a mirror finish, and braces are installed to ensure safety in the event of a disaster while maintaining the original appearance. Only the ceiling panel, in which lighting is embedded, is made of conventional glass.
