Tadao ando was the architect of this children's library, which was renovated from the former kimono store "mitaya" built in 1900 and donated to tono city. it is operated by the city. this is the second project following "children's book forest nakanoshima" (this magazine, 2009). tono city purchased the vacant building in 2017, and has been discussing how to utilize it with citizens. all components of the existing building were dismantled and partially reused for construction. the front exterior along chuo-dori was reconstructed to look as it did when mitaya was first built.
