The exterior walls of the 1st to 4th floors and part of the 5th floor are "reconstructions" of the former Engineering Building No. 3, and while inheriting the University of Tokyo's unique landscape with its sequence of similar styles, the scale has been expanded with the addition of a new high-rise section to meet the needs of cutting-edge research. The building is designed to meet the needs of advanced research.
